8 Signs Your Car Needs Auto Repair

It isn't always obvious when your car needs a shop and when it can wait. If you notice any of these, don't gamble on it — catching a problem early is almost always cheaper than letting it get worse., we've helped Dallas drivers tell the difference.

    Stalling or won't acceleratecould be a failing fuel pump or ignition trouble, and it's dangerous on the road. Don't wait for it to fix itself.

    Hard or loose steeringoften low power-steering fluid or a failing component. Anything affecting your ability to steer is a check-it-now problem.

    Fluid leakspuddles of oil, red/brown transmission fluid, green/yellow coolant, or brake fluid mean a leak in a critical system. (AC condensation water is harmless; the rest isn't.)

    Worn brakessquealing or grinding means worn pads; shaking when you brake can mean pads, fluid, or alignment. Brakes aren't the place to wait.

    Rough or shaky ridevibration at speed usually traces to wheels or alignment, which drift from normal wear or a hard pothole. Quick to fix.

    Unusual engine noisegrinding, popping, growling, or a hard-starting engine isn't normal. Caught early, it's a small fix.
