8 Signs Your Car Needs Auto Repair
It isn't always obvious when your car needs a shop and when it can wait. If you notice any of these, don't gamble on it — catching a problem early is almost always cheaper than letting it get worse., we've helped Dallas drivers tell the difference.
- 1
Stalling or won't accelerate — could be a failing fuel pump or ignition trouble, and it's dangerous on the road. Don't wait for it to fix itself.
- 2
Hard or loose steering — often low power-steering fluid or a failing component. Anything affecting your ability to steer is a check-it-now problem.
- 3
Fluid leaks — puddles of oil, red/brown transmission fluid, green/yellow coolant, or brake fluid mean a leak in a critical system. (AC condensation water is harmless; the rest isn't.)
- 4
Worn brakes — squealing or grinding means worn pads; shaking when you brake can mean pads, fluid, or alignment. Brakes aren't the place to wait.
- 5
Rough or shaky ride — vibration at speed usually traces to wheels or alignment, which drift from normal wear or a hard pothole. Quick to fix.
- 6
Unusual engine noise — grinding, popping, growling, or a hard-starting engine isn't normal. Caught early, it's a small fix.
- 7
Check-engine light — sometimes routine, sometimes a glitch, but paired with poor performance or odd noises, get it scanned. We'll read the code and tell you straight.
- 8
Bad exhaust — black smoke or a strange smell can mean a clogged filter or a converter issue. Worth a look before it grows.
